Update for Bacon

Greetings, friends of Bacon,

This month has been a challenging time for the world and for Tabby’s Place. I’m sure we’ve all found ourselves bombarded with news and information of COVID-19 on a near-daily basis. We’ve found ourselves in a world we have never known before, our lives have been drastically altered, our daily routines have changed in ways we couldn’t predict. At least that’s in the human world.

There is one cat at Tabby’s Place who is blissfully unaware of the chaos around us. Bacon, of course. He’s not seen the change in how many people are in the building, the lack of visitors walking through our doors, or a sudden decline in extra treats. No, his life has remained unchanged. Each day is the same, his schedule for crating during the day and roaming at night remains the same, and the food stays the same.

Oh, wait, that last one isn’t quite right. The food has changed as we continue to struggle with finding the perfect wet food that can disguise his medications. So, the food has changed, but the overall routine of us trying to appease him remains constant.

The battle of food continues. There have been subtle improvements. As we’ve started to carefully log his food, we’ve been able to notice some patterns. Bacon will happily eat one flavor of wet food, but unfortunately he soon turns his nose up. It lasts a few days until we’re back at square one, guessing which flavor sounds good. How should we know? Actually, how do the companies know? Are their feline taste testers or are there people out there willing to sample cat food?

It’s an interesting thought, but not one to dwell on at the moment. We celebrate the successes we have with Bacon eating his food, even if it’s only for a few days at most. Baby steps. Eventually, we will get there, we will finally find the perfect flavor.

We should remind ourselves, and now I speak to all of us humans, that we don’t face the difficulties in the world around us alone. We will get through this. While we can not be as happily unaware as Bacon, we can take those baby steps. Walking through the challenges of COVID-19 may be a slow uphill climb, but we can and will overcome this.

Bacon and all of us here at Tabby’s Place are sending well wishes ♥ and thanking you for your continued support through even these troubled times.
