Update for Colleen

Dear supporters of Colleen,

By now you’ve probably guessed that I simply adore Colleen. I can still remember when I was first asked to write for her and I saw her for the first time. I was struck by her beauty – her black and white fluffy coat and those green eyes!!! WOW!

Colleen is beginning (we estimate) her 7th year, and to me she’s still a beauty. She’s been hanging out a bit more in the lobby, and I think it’s because she loves sitting in front of the glass doors in the sun. In the last few weeks I’ve caught her curled up on the rug all toasty and warm, catching those rays… although sometimes she’s in Jonathan’s office, snacking away at a food bowl.

I usually whisk her into my arms and carry her over to one of the sofas, and we sit together. Immediately she begins to purr, and I just love it! She knows me so well now. And that’s the best part about making friends with a cat – they begin to appreciate the fact that you’re a regular visitor. Sometimes she curls up in my lap, and she’ll stay there for as long as I want. Yeah, life is good when Colleen is snuggling close to you and her purrs fill the air!

Colleen has often been medically hard to pin down, and this month she had an up and down month.

She lost some weight and seemed to have some diminished energy – but then seemed to be doing better. Then, an ultrasound revealed that her kidneys were extremely small, which indicated that Colleen’s renal disease is more serious than everyone expected based on her blood work. It seems that cats with renal disease can either have mild findings on their blood work and small kidneys, or just the opposite. Serious kidney disease is never good news, but the disease does explain Colleen’s weight loss, especially since another test revealed she was not losing protein in her urine.

Colleen also showed an increased amount of facial pawing this month, but compared to last month, her face looks so much better.

On the up side, an appetite supplement has helped Colleen regain her lost weight. Even so, please, keep Colleen in your thoughts and prayers.

She’s in the very best of hands and receiving excellent care. In fact, the other day when Colleen was sacked out on my lap, one of the women who work at Tabby’s Place, Ginny, flew over, and before I could literally blink had swooped in and given Colleen a pill, using one of those pill popping contraptions. I was impressed! Colleen hardly knew what happened. If you have to take a pill, it’s best to get it over quickly!

Thanks, as always, for your continued support. Colleen and I both wish you a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!
