Hildegarde

Hildegarde’s story is one we see all too often. She was the beloved companion of a senior citizen. Unhappily, that senior died suddenly and unexpectedly, and it was actually several days before Hildegarde was even found in the apartment. ‘Hilde", as she’s known, was taken in by Animal Control. As an adult cat with diabetes, she wouldn’t have had a chance at most shelters, but luckily, we were able to make a place for her.

Hilde is a large girl, with gray on her back, tail, and hind legs, as well as a near-symmetrical grey patch over her head and ears; the rest of her coat is white. Our Sanctuary Manager tells me that she’s a sweet cat and likes attention, but she has been quite depressed, and that’s no wonder, suddenly losing her best friend and then enduring so many quick changes in her life. Our best guess is that Hilde was born in 2007.

Because of her diabetes, Hilde is one of our Special Needs felines. She is on a special diet and receives insulin injections twice a day, and both will have to be continued for the foreseeable future.

As is the case for many of our cats, Hilde is not right for every home. But we believe there’s a special person out there who can turn around her sad story and provide her with a "forever" home.
