Hildegarde
Imagine living your whole life with one loving companion…then suddenly finding yourself alone.
This is what happened to Hildegarde when her person passed away, and it was several days before this sweet cat was found. To make matters worse, Hilde was then picked up by animal control. Most shelters would consider elderly, diabetic Hildegarde “unadoptable,” and her future looked bleak.
But Hilde got to come to Tabby’s Place. “Adoptable” or otherwise, she’d found a loving haven, with an extended human family who would cherish her just as she is. The vet team got to work getting Hilde’s diabetes under control, and the staff and volunteers began the gentle, patient work of helping Hilde learn to trust again.
That work is ongoing; Hildegarde is still a little bit confused, finding her way in a new environment and away from the only home she had ever known. If you approach Hildegarde, her eyes, as big as two supermoons, initially show some trepidation, but mask a tender heart longing for love and attention.
A little on the sturdy side, our grey and white girl currently resides in Tabby’s Place’s Weight Management Suite. In addition to keeping her weight in check, Hilde’s prescription diet helps keep her diabetes under control. We’re presently (as of 2015) checking Hildegarde’s blood glucose (BG) twice each day. This test involves a quick pinprick to one of Hilde’s velvety ears. While some cats fuss about this, Hilde’s as gentle as a lamb. We give her insulin injections once or twice a day, depending on her BG.
We’re so smitten with Hildegarde that we believe she’ll be adopted. But, we realize she’ll require a very special family to provide the costly care and tender TLC she needs. In the meantime, you can be part of Hildegarde’s family.
Will you please sponsor Hildegarde and help restore this gentle cat’s faith and trust?
