Update for the TNR Fund

Update for the TNR Fund

Happy May, dear sponsors.

It is May we’re in now, right? Some days I can’t tell my March from my June from my silvery moon, but I’m fairly sure — at least in this moment — that it’s currently May.

I feel a bit like a Jane Austen character to start every update with something like this, but here goes: I pray and trust that you and your relations are well and in good spirits despite the troubled times in which we live. Verily yes? Good.

And, thanks to you, great goodness continues to unfold for the cats, too.

The lockdown order continues here in NJ, and with it our pause in all TNR work…well, almost all. We’re not actively trapping any new colonies right now, but we are — always — committed to the cats already under our umbrella of care.

Mitzi upon arrival at Tabby’s Place

A couple of weeks ago, we got a worrisome call about one of the cats in a colony we’d TNR’d in 2014. Miniscule Mitzi was looking especially frail, and something more than extreme old age was taking its toll. So, Mitzi came back to Tabby’s Place, into the loving arms of our tireless staff — and from there, immediately on to the emergency vet.

Mitzi hadn’t come home a moment too soon: she was suffering from untreated diabetes, along with severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. There was no way this wee warrior (all 4.5 pounds of her) could return outdoors. Fortunately, she had no desire to do so. As intensive care, hydration, good food and insulin all did their work, Mitzi awakened to the dream of love, and she hasn’t missed a minute of snuggles and sweetness since.

Mitzi’s first bath

As of this update, our amazing Senior Veterinary Technician, Denise, is nurturing Mitzi in her home through the quarantine. As you can see from this series of photos, Mitzi is getting stronger and happier each day — and cleaner, too, as Denise patiently bathes her!

Marvelous Mitz is a trooper for getting her blood glucose taken and her insulin injected, and she’s raring to meet all the Tabby’s Place staff, volunteers and sponsors who are every bit as eager to adore her. We trust that will all become possible in good time, even as we’re affectionately impatient.

Dear sponsors, as we all wait and wonder about the future together, please know that you are making the present a true gift of grace for cats like Mitzi. It’s only thanks to you that, even in the midst of a global crisis, we can be here for one precious cat who needed us. It would be all too easy for Mitzi to get missed in the madness of this moment, but thanks to you and Tabby’s Place, love has prevailed.

May love prevail in your day and your month — whatever month it is! — too. Thank you from the depths of my heart.

Angela
