Update for the Kitten Fund

Elaine and Gloria, arguably THE cutest sisters ever born

Greetings, Dear Sponsors of the Kitten Fund,

How June has flown by and how the kittens have flown home! Unsurprisingly, this past month has been a blur filled with tiny little ones running all about the place. We have had a number of new kittens and more a bunch of wonderful adoptions! Although there have been a few moments of sadness and loss this month, we continue to strive to care for the most vulnerable cats.

June brought our first-ever all-virtual kitten shower! The spring and summer are always busy with tons of kittens and we are tasked with finding them all homes, as amazing as they are. At our virtual shower, we were able to introduce many of our adoptable kittens and show them off to potential adopters (and admirers!). Thanks to our shower, we were able to place a number of kittens like Yeti and Sasquatch as well as Guppy, Nintendo, Ciabatta, and Brioche.

Homie. Home Slice. Home Skillet. The Dude.

Elliot has been enjoying being Big Brother to a whole crew of kittens! We recently transformed our Special Needs Suite (where Elliot has been staying) into the Kitten Room. While we had to move the other adult cats in the room to other suites, the staff thought that Elliot would really enjoy having a bunch of new playmates—and we were right! He is frequently found running around the room with the “babies” and is beginning to look like such a big boy compared to our tiniest residents (at less than 7lbs, however, he’s still quite petite next to most adults!).

I have had the personal joy of having two little ones in foster care: Homie and Inspector Gadget.

Homie was surrendered to us by an elderly gentleman who owns a farm and unfortunately will occasionally find abandoned cats. Luckily, this gentleman brought little Homie right to us! He is a healthy little one and such a character! He is as confident as can be and will walk into a new space as if he owns it. He loves to chase around wand toys and can LEAP across the room. Homie loves hanging out next to a window so he can watch the world go by and enjoy the scents in the breeze. Homie lives up to his name by just wanting to be friends with everyone—human, feline, or otherwise. He is a menace to all cups of water (as he insists on drinking from them and will just knock them over if he can’t get what he wants) but is overall a very good boy.

Homie and his buddy, Inspector Gadget

Inspector Gadget is a lovable dork with a bit of a head wobble from some slight neurological issues. He was found during a local TNR project with a terrible ear mite infection and was very dirty. When he first arrived, he was wobbly and we weren’t entirely sure to what degree his mobility would be affected, but he has done very well. Inspector’s wobbliness is now very minimal and comes out most when he is excited, startled, or digging into some good wet food! He is a destroyer of silvervine sticks and will run circles around toys. Most of all, Inspector is incredibly sweet and cuddly and will melt into your hands if you rub his ears. He is truly a special one and I will deeply miss Inspector Gadget and Homie when they head off to their own families!

Pumpernickel, blessing us all with his sassy ‘tude and singular sock.

While we are filled with joy thanks to all these precious ones, we have also experienced a few losses this month. During a TNR project, two sick, young pregnant cats were trapped, one of which unexpectedly gave birth to five kittens in a trap. Only two of these kittens are now with us today and are getting the best care possible in foster, but unfortunately, they were born prematurely and were very sick. We are hopeful that the last two will pull through and they are being showered with all the love and care possible.

The reality of kitten season is not always a happy one, but Tabby’s Place is dedicated to fighting for the most vulnerable cats, a goal we can only accomplish with the support of people like you. As we head into another month of kitten season, we are especially appreciative of your continued support of Tabby’s Place’s littlest residents! We have already been able to care for and find homes for so many little ones, but we are sure there are always plenty more to come!
