Update for Shifty

Hello, dearest sponsors,

My Correspondent Kim has once again offered me the chance to put “pen to paw” and write my own update.  I am happy for the opportunity to share my own news with you!

Right now, everything is “status quo” with me.  Status quo is considered a good thing here at Tabby’s Place.  It means that everything is basically ok. There are no real changes in my health issues that would give a reason for big concern.

What the staff IS keeping an eye on, however, is my diabetic status.  In the past month, my diabetes has been controlled by a strict dietary regime.  There have been times in previous months where injections were required to keep my levels “normal;” the need for those injections could happen again at any time in my future.  The medication that is most helpful to me to control my painful stomatitis (inflammation of the oral cavity) has the unfortunate side effect of leaving the recipient’s sugar levels too high.  Sometimes, a feline system will make its own adjustments, and diet will help to keep this tendency at bay.  But sometimes, those injections become a necessity.

Kim and I “chat” about this when she visits me. She encourages me to stick to my diet.  Once upon a time, she adopted a cat from Tabby’s Place with the same tendencies.  Regular monitoring was required.  She speaks of her cat Fuzzy, and his “ups and downs” with diabetic monitoring.  Most cats can lead a healthy life if any changes are caught early enough to prevent serious problems. He was blessed to be one of them.  I have a good listener in that correspondent of mine (who will go on endlessly about “Fabulous Fuzzy,” and how wonderful he was, if I let her…).

With my health is “status quo,” I am enjoying feeling better and socializing a bit more with the other cats in the Employee/Volunteer Lounge I call “home.” I have started to siesta in the sunny windows on the cat tree, and am more relaxed and friendly towards the other cats with which I reside.  I get to see everyone who comes in the door, as signing in is required of both staff and volunteers. Many of those “humans” will ogle over me with fussing and fondness, seeing a big silver fellow like me all stretched out and handsome.  What’s not to love here, I ask? For them AND for me!

I thank you all for your most generous gifts that go towards helping me to be the very best boy I can be!  If your fall plans ever include taking a drive into scenic Hunterdon County, NJ, please make a stop at Tabby’s Place and meet me.  I will be sunning myself in the window, waiting for your visit!

Yours in Cat Love,
Shifty
