Update for Shifty

Ready & waiting to greet the volunteers as they sign in!

Hello, Dear Fans!

Here is your favorite gray boy, here to personally bring you up-to-date on what is happening with me and with Tabby’s Place!

Oh, and I have a little news about my correspondent, Kim, too!

I am getting really excited about the expansion of Tabby’s Place to include our new wing Quinn’s Corner.  Things seem like they are coming to a constructive conclusion, with windows and doors being installed and painting and trim being completed.  I even saw some planting going on, which will enhance our outdoor appearance.  I felt bad for the gentlemen who were working outside in all of this heat we have been experiencing here in central New Jersey.  But my correspondent, Kim, who also runs our Stroller Program here at Tabby’s Place, assures me that those same gentlemen could not be nicer when she and her team members walk by with the cats who stroll.  The workers come up to the strollers, peek in, and want to know more about each cat that is taking a ride.  She says it does her heart good to see such kindness.

I remain “status quo” health-wise, which, as you know, is considered a good

thing at Tabby’s Place.  There was an instance with my roomie Fenek, who took out his frustrations on me one morning.  But we all have good days and bad days, so I tried to remain a good sport about it.  I could not help but give a sly cat smile when Fenek was given a “time-out” in the employee bathroom to “cool off.”

I spend my days watching from the cat tree the comings and goings of everyone.  There sure are a lot of people! Our volunteer recruitment drive has added some new faces around here; everyone seems to like me and I have fun greeting them when they come into our Volunteer/Employee Lounge to sign in for their shifts.  Remember that if you know any great people like yourself that may wish to join us, please send them our way!  We will surely need more help, as we look to open our new wing soon.

Taking a break from watching all the fun activity outside!

Lastly, I must let you in on a little secret.  My correspondent, Kim, will be receiving her FIFTEEN YEAR Service Award from Tabby’s Place at the end of August!  She is so very excited to reach this milestone!  She has been around so long, that her initial paperwork and application to volunteer have been misplaced!

But you know how we know how long she has been there?  By the cats for whom she has written monthly updates!  The first cat she ever wrote for was a cat named Ringo, a big Maine Coon cat with a personality as big as himself!  That beloved first friend of hers has been gone a very long time now; she had actually been volunteering for almost a year before she started to write for him. I wish I could applaud her achievement personally, but she knows I am with her in heart and spirit as she receives her award at our picnic at the end of the month.

Thank you all for your most generous gifts that keep me svelte (Kim had to get her favorite word in!) and happy.  I hope that once we get some nice fall days, you can come by to visit me.  I look forward to that day.

Yours in everything gray and handsome,
Shifty
