Update for Mona

Hello my dear sponsor,

I hope that you are enjoying the unusual spring weather. There is something for everyone — hot and sunny days, cool and crisp ones, as well as cloudy and rainy.

Spring is also a time for spring cleaning and reinventing ourselves. And at Tabby’s Place, there seems to be a lot of that happening. There’s been a great deal of repainting and playing “musical cats” here at the Sanctuary during the last several weeks. Many cats have packed their bags and have now settled into different rooms. Luckily for us in the FIV+ Suite, we were able to stay where we are, and our home remains as wonderful as ever.

As I was surfing the web recently, I came across an article that I found very interesting. There was a study from Purdue University as to whether or not FIV+ cats can live with FIV- cats, without transmitting the virus. The study found that, yes, they can live together happily and safely, because it is actually very difficult for the disease to be transmitted during normal, day-to-day activity. The important thing, then, is whether the cats have compatible personalities, since the only major risk of transmission would result from deep punctures caused by intense fighting. I wish more people were aware of this fact. Maybe it would help those of us in our suite to be adopted into a multi-cat home! So, if you know anyone…

Health-wise, I am happy to report that I am doing fine. In other suite news, our friend McNulty has been doing well with his behavioral meds. He was recently seen sitting on a cot with the usually timid Amos. Meanwhile, sweet Charlie continues to struggle with diarrhea, although a recent ultrasound revealed nothing of serious concern. The folks at Tabby’s Place will be trying a new medication for him him. Finally, Cisco has been calming down nicely, and he’s been spending more time sunning with the rest of us out in the solarium.

Well, that’s all for now. As always, I am grateful that you make my wonderful life at Tabby’s Place possible. I hope that you enjoy the rest of the spring, because it will almost be summer by the time for my next update!
