Update for Kitten Fund

Hello, Kitten Lovers!

Spring has finally sprung, and change is in the air at Tabby’s Place. The expansion progresses from a nebulous shell to a multi-faceted home for the most vulnerable residents, cats infected with feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and neonatal kittens. Everyone at Tabby’s Place is both excited about the evolution taking place and looking toward what will be needed to support the changing needs.

Gossamer and crew as newborns!

In fact, we would love your help in expanding our family-with volunteers! Last month I mentioned our need for additional volunteers as we prepare for our Quinn’s Corner expansion, which will open later this year. From cleaning to feeding to delivering tender affection, volunteers make a huge impact on our cats’ lives and are the backbone of Tabby’s Place.

If you, or anyone in your own “family” of cat lovers, can come aboard, please visit our volunteer page, submit a volunteer application, or contact our Director of Volunteers, Karina Jewitt, at kj@tabbysplace.org. Volunteers must be 12 years or older, and a parent must accompany those under 16 during their volunteer shift. Please share this opportunity with your loved ones! If you live a bit too far away to join us in person, know that you are still very much “right there” with us through your generosity.

On the kitten front, Mama Aspen has returned to Tabby’s Place and has weaned her kittens. This has enabled all three to go to their adoptive homes—well done, Aspen! The flow of kittens continues, and we have several litters of orphaned kittens in foster care with members of the staff. Three abandoned day-old kittens came to us last month; a little boy nugget named Bao and his sisters, Kimchi and Pho (yes, they are as yummy as they sound). Just to round out the group they were joined by a little boy named Eggroll.

Another group known as the Slytherin House kittens were rescued when their mom was hit by a car. Lucas, Nagini, and Salazar (an all-boy team) are doing well and are starting to eat on their own. Sadly, their fourth brother, Severus, passed away a few days after arriving despite appearing healthy, a sad reminder of the fragile nature of these tiny babies.

Gossamer babies, now three weeks old!

Also, in an overzealous nod to Mother’s Day, after the birth of her five kittens last month, Gossamer would not let her brood be touched for their first week. This little clowder, named Taffeta, Suede, Cashmere, and Chenille, enjoyed their mom’s undivided attention to start their lives.

Our many kittens and mother cats and all of us at Tabby’s Place would love your help in expanding our family—with volunteers!  Last month I mentioned our need for additional volunteers as we prepare for our Quinn’s Corner expansion, which will open later this year. From cleaning to feeding to delivering tender affection, volunteers make a huge impact on our cats’ lives. If you have a heart for cats, we have a role perfectly fit for you at Tabby’s Place.
