Update for Jude

Dear Jude Friends,

Our poor Jude had quite a messy month. For a few days, she developed diarrhea, and with the way Jude moves she got it all over herself, which required several baths. Jude was NOT happy at all about this. On one of the days, she even had to have 2 baths on the same day! This continued for about a week:  every day she got messy and every day she had to have a bath. She was not a happy girl.  Of course, we started Jude on medication right away to help get her diarrhea under control, but it did take a few days before her stool was back to normal. It was a relief once the diarrhea was gone and her stool was normal because a messy Jude that has to get bathed is a Jude that is an angry Jude, indeed.

Jude had three seizures this month, but none of them lasted very long, passing quickly. I only had to give her the rescue meds for one of the seizures, as the other 2 seizures passed before I could even get her the medication, which of course is good news.

Jude has a little roommate at the moment named Eloise or Eli, as I call her. Eli came to Tabby’s Place recently not really able to walk, and with some pretty serious neurological issues. We quickly found out that Eli has toxoplasmosis, which is a parasite. We immediately started medication to treat it.  That could be the cause of the neurological issues.  But we will not know for sure until she has finished the medication. It could also cause lasting problems for little Eli, but only time will tell. Jude has not met Eli yet, because Eli is still in a playpen in Jude’s room, but they will meet eventually. Eli can walk a little bit, but it is an awkward and wobbly walk, and she also needs her bladder and bowels manually expressed 3 times a day. But don’t worry about Eli, as she is safe with us!  I think she and Jude will get along well because Eli is very quiet and calm and gentle.

It has been very sunny lately and Jude has certainly enjoyed finding all the sunny spots in which to take a nice nap—it is her absolute favorite thing!  Actually, I think eating is her favorite thing, but lying in a sunbeam comes a close second. Jude’s absolute favorite food is Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys, and she will eat a whole can in one sitting! As she is a small cat that’s quite a lot of food for one tiny little girl. Jude manages to eat 3 cans of this food a day:  one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus she also eats dry food and treats. I have no idea where she puts all this food as she never gains weight!

Jude has always liked my partner so much more than she likes me.  I must say I’m a little jealous, but I am glad at least she likes someone. She still won’t tolerate much, of course, but she will allow a few pets, and my partner can pick her up without too many grumbles. Of course, I am the one who expresses her bladder and bowels and gives her medication, so she is often angry at me. I can, however, occasionally scratch her head and around her ears without grumbles.

In our house, Jude is the queen, and she rules us completely!  We absolutely adore her and she can do no wrong in our eyes.

That’s all the Jude news for now. As always, thank you so much for everything you do for little Jude, as we couldn’t do this without you.
