Update for Jude

Dear Jude Friends,

Jude has had a fairly good month, with only a couple of small seizures, and one grand mal seizure. The grand mal seizure required me to give her the rescue medicine to get the seizure to stop. Once I administered the medicine, the seizure stopped quickly, and Jude was back to her old self.

Jude went through an episode of having some loose stool, which got very messy because she drags herself through the poop when she’s done. She had to have a few baths this month, which she is not crazy about. I try to explain to her that she will feel better when she’s not dirty anymore, but she doesn’t listen. She may grumble and complain, but at least she somewhat tolerates having a bath. We put Jude on some medicine to help the loose stool, and it improved quickly.

I trimmed Jude’s claws recently, with her awake! I usually do this right after a seizure, while she is still a little groggy, but her claws really needed doing, so I thought I would give it a try. She did really well! I was surprised that she stayed so calm and just let me trim her claws.

Jude has a room-mate at the moment. A little kitten named Serenity that I am fostering for Tabby’s Place. Serenity has cerebellar hypoplasia, which causes her to be very wobbly. Serenity spends more of the time in her own playpen because she can’t get around well on her own. Jude doesn’t seem to mind that someone else is in her room.

At a certain point of the day, the sun hits the floor in Jude’s room for a while, and it always amazes me that as soon as the sun appears, Jude goes to that spot on the floor to lay in the sunbeam. Jude is blind, so how does she know where the sunbeam is? I am not sure, but she finds it every single time the sun hits the floor. She looks so peaceful and content laid in a sunbeam. It’s a beautiful thing to see.

Jude has continued to allow a few pets for a couple of minutes each day. She really loves an ear rub, and slowly tilts over into your hand when having her ears rubbed. For quite some time she would not allow any pets at all, so to see her allowing pets, and even enjoying them, makes my heart smile.

There is something so special about Jude. This little cat is usually very cranky with me, yells at me, and doesn’t want much to do with me, but I love her with my whole self. I wish I could give her a huge hug, but I know she would hate it. I do kiss the top of her head every day.  She grumbles, but I don’t care—I must kiss her!

That’s all the Jude news for now. As always, thank you all for your continued support of Jude. We couldn’t do this without. In these uncertain times, you have stuck by us, and we appreciate you so much.

Your correspondent,
Karina
