Update for Bialy

Greetings, Bialy supporters!

Our darling Bialy continued his horizontal expansion this month – if you have a moment, you really should check out his front profile from Bialy level. He looks like he’s deployed some flotation devices along the sides! Or perhaps he’s really a pot-bellied pig. One of the most frequent questions I hear visitors and volunteers ask is if his belly is a side effect of his neurological condition, and the answer is no. It’s a side effect of his love for food. You can get an idea of his girth in the photo.

Bialy is more than sweet enough to match his girth, though, and volunteer meetings usually find him draped in someone’s arms or splayed on the table for belly rubs. If he’s awake and notices a friendly visitor come in he makes a beeline to greet you. He’s fond of any and all human attention.

With toys he seems to have his own take on those. For instance he’s quite happy to chew on the string of a spider wand but isn’t interested in chasing or attacking the spider. But give him a pen or paper that someone is working with, he’s all about getting into those. Go figure!

This month, Bialy got a new roommate, Chickadee, who is the newest member of our CH (cerebellar hypoplasia) crew. After Sprite departed last month, Bialy was glad to have a CH kitty move in so that he has some more company in the silly walks club. But while Bialy weaves like (an unsteady) snake, Chickadee paces like a harness horse.

Also this month, Geoff, usually the stalwart of Jonathan’s office, has taken to visiting the community room. We’re not sure why, because he doesn’t seem to be enjoying himself much when he’s there (hiss, hiss, growl, hiss), but who are we to judge a cat? Sweet, laid-back Bialy was a bit confused, too. Why would Geoff invite himself in, and then proceed to yell at Bialy?

At least Tashi still makes sense to him (and good thing that Tashi makes sense to somebody!) In the attached video you see Tashi grooming Bialy and then suddenly Tashi attacks and they start a wrestling match. Bialy seems to take it all in stride, not taking offense at being attacked.

Bialy, our little butterball, thanks you for your continued support.
