Update for Bellis

Greetings to Bellis’ supporters,

Bellis is the third cat I have written for at Tabby’s Place. When circumstances called for a new cat for whom I would write, I don’t remember if I could choose the cat or she was given to me. When I received an email with Bellis’ name I immediately clicked on her link to put a face with a name.

Wow. This was love at first sight. I’m not sure if I even believed in love at first sight until Miss Bellis flashed onto my computer.

Now I do folks, because this is love.

I’m glad to be able to tell you this, since you deserve no less than reports from someone wholeheartedly in love with my our delicate girl.

I couldn’t make it to Tabby’s Place to meet Bellis for a few days, but, her picture flashed into my head several times a day. I considered her face and why I couldn’t get it out of my head. All I could come up with is that her face has a natural smile, through her markings or something that made it appear that way, and her smile is what drew me to her.

Then, on Sunday I met Bellis, and my instant love was confirmed; what a sweet loving girl! She was in a small suite with new friends Midnight, Sylvester and Pirate, awaiting another spay surgery in an effort to end her heat cycles.

Amazingly, this will be Bellis’ third spay surgery. She was spayed when she first came to Tabby’s Place, but, when she showed the telltale signs of going into heat again, our vet suspected she had some lingering, “hidden” ovarian tissue. A second surgery confirmed this, and we thought that Bellis’ spays were over.

Alas, when Bellis’ former adopters returned her due to her spraying this summer, we learned that her inappropriate elimination was due to…not being completely spayed. So, the Tabby’s Place team decided to wait for Bellis to go into full-blown heat before giving her a third spay surgery. Being in heat makes that sneaky, hidden tissue easier to find and remove once and for all. And, hopefully, this will mean the end of Bellis’ bad bathroom behavior – and a better chance at adoption.

The big spay day was Tuesday, and I’m grateful to report that Bellis sailed through her surgery just fine. She’s back at Tabby’s Place now, recovering well, and looking forward to moving back out to the Lobby, where she’ll surely love romping with her dear friend Tashi (as you can see here). As happy as Bellis is in her small suite, she’d really like to live out in the Lobby with Tashi. As long as her surgery was successful and she’s able to stop spraying, she’ll get that wish very soon.

Prior to my visit with Bellis, I had never spent much time with a blind cat. I was dumbfounded at Bellis’ abilities despite having no vision at all. In a new room. With new cats. (Some of whom aren’t charter members of her fan club.) Amazing.

Bellis greeted me like an old friend, and rubbed and purred. I petted and scratched and loved her. We became acquainted and I told her all about the adventure we are going on together and my sincere wish for her to find her very own home, and about all of you, the people that make it all possible.

I think Bellis is impressed by all this fuss about her, I could tell by the big smile on her face, I hope you too can see her smile in this picture.

Thank you kind sponsors for putting a smile on her face and mine. Your kindness and generosity are appreciated beyond all measure.
