Update for Adam

April greetings, friends of Adam.

Spring has finally sprung! We here in New Jersey were not sure it would ever come, but the daffodils are blooming and Adam is back spending time out in the solarium, so we know warmer weather is truly here.

Our poor Adam is battling diarrhea again. Although he doesn’t seem terribly troubled by this (or anything else, for that matter), we’re treating him with an antibiotic that’s often effective against stubborn diarrhea.

In happier news (for Adam and for everyone else), the solarium is once again an appealing place to be, which will bring Adam’s manic energy outdoors for some spring frolicking. He can use some of his much pent-up energy running up and down his favorite ramp, through the tube, and into the solarium, over and over again.

The manic side of Adam got a bit of a reprieve this month, when we decided not to start our wild child on behavioral medication. Although Adam continues to be a bit obnoxious towards his feline neighbors, we don’t feel it’s severe enough to warrant medication just yet.

Adam seems to have found a way to keep the peace in the kingdom of Suite C. When I visited with him recently, I brought a feather toy for the cats to play with. I was trying to play with Mango, and while he was playing, Adam came bounding over. I fully expected to have to break up a cat fight, but instead, Adam just played with the toy with Mango! There was no hissing or fighting.

Then Adam’s new roomie, Ryan Lewis, who is quite shy and a little scared of Adam, came over to see what was happening. Adam gave Ryan Lewis a little sniff, but then kept on attacking the toy. When he had prey to kill, he left the other cats alone, and he didn’t attack me, either. I didn’t get swiped at or over-loved. He just leaned in, licked my hand once, and then kept on playing. Maybe I have found the secret to taming the wild Adam. He just needs a bit more play time! I will try this again next time I visit.

Adam has a new pose that I call his “Snoopy-vulture pose”. He reminds me of Snoopy when he sits on top of his doghouse and looks down like a vulture. Adam does that from the top of the ramp all of the time.

When I was in the lobby talking to our new kitty, Psi, I looked into Suite C, and there was Adam, all vulture-y. It is ridiculously cute! I don’t know who or what he is stalking, but he is looking for something. Maybe there are rabbits or mice that only Adam can see.

My funniest Adam encounter this month happened while I was cleaning Suite C. Of course the room was an absolute mess, thanks to poor Adam’s constant diarrhea problems. There were dribbles of poop everywhere! Well, I had already cleaned up the litter boxes and water bowls and checked all the blankets for stray poop. The other two ladies who were working with me were cleaning the crates and re-filling the water. I got down on my hands and knees to spot clean the floor wherever there were poop spots so that we could thoroughly mop the floor.

Adam watched the three of us from one of the cubby ledges very intently. I have never seen him sit so still before. He sat there for at least ten minutes, just watching us work. I think I have been watching too much “Downton Abbey,” because all I could think was that Adam was the Lord of the Manor and I was the under-butler doing his bidding. I guess the other women were the housekeeper and scullery maid in his mind. He was so regal sitting there watching over the cleaning of his domain. He was so cute! I didn’t even mind all of the spots of poop to clean.

There you have it, Adam lovers. Our adorable little tabby is up to his usual antics and is as goofy as always. He sends you oodles of love and thanks you for your support. If you are ever in Suite C, remember to bring a bird toy with you and watch the silly boy go. He will pull out all of the stops for you, his special friends. Have a lovely month, everyone!
