Sam

Meet Sam, a gentle, friendly boy, with a medium-length coat. Sam has white on his muzzle, chest, and tummy, as well as his front feet and hind legs. The remainder of his coat is a light-to-medium grey; he also has stylish white whiskers and a black nose-tip, along with impressive ear tufts. We estimate he was born in the spring of 2008.

The first time I met Sam, I went into his suite and sat on the floor near him (he was asleep in a cubbyhole at the time). I reached into the cubbyhole slowly to pet him. As soon as he woke up, he stretched, jumped onto the floor, and began to wander in and out of my lap, purring and rubbing on my pen, pant legs, etc. He just likes people. He seems to tolerate the other cats in his suite; although, it’s important to note that the reason for his surrender was “not good with pets.” Unfortunately, his previous owners did not elaborate on this.

Right now, Sam is having some issues with his eyes. We’re not altogether clear on what’s happening; however, based on a visit with an ophthalmologist we highly suspect a severe, chronic herpes infection. We do not think he has suffered any loss of vision, however. At present, we are treating him with antiviral medication, which may or may not be discontinued in the future, and we put lysine in his food daily (that will likely have to be continued in the long term). Sam suffers from skin allergies and is currently on allergy shots for this. Stay tuned for updates on this sweet, laid-back boy…
