Jasper

FIV+ Jasper was isolated in a room for over a year while he waited for a slot to open at Tabby’s Place. When he first arrived we were concerned about his potential “feral status” (we avoid accepting ferals, since they typically do not do well in an indoors-only environment). But, something told us Jasper would come around, so we were comfortable taking him. Jasper1.jpgCats that are FIV+ have been infected with the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).This virus disables or destroys the white blood cells, and leaves the cat susceptible to infections. Once a cat is infected with FIV, the cat is infected for life and can transmit the virus if he or she bites another cat.

Our FIV+ cats have their own suite and we are extra-careful about disease control procedures in their suite.Jasper2.jpgJasper has improved tremendously in the few short weeks he has been in the FIV Suite. He gets along very well with the other cats and he is actually starting to become friendly. He approaches people when we enter the room and will often allow himself to be petted — as long as we are slow and deliberate. We feel confident that Jasper is well on his way to becoming a domesticated cat. But, his FIV+ status greatly diminishes his chances of being adopted.

Please sponsor dear Jasper and help us to care for him.
