Hobbes

Hobbes

The fall of 2012 brought Hurricane Sandy to Tabby’s Place. But, in the midst of that crazy, horrible storm, along came the incredible Hobbes.

Hobbes and his brother Calvin came to Tabby’s Place from another rescue that was overcrowded with Sandy survivors. Unfortunately, Calvin succumbed to heart disease shortly after their arrival. Although Hobbes was now without his beloved brother, he was part of our Tabby’s Place family — and we welcomed him with open paws.

The gentle and somewhat timid Hobbes initially had a severe case of ringworm, stomatitis (a painful condition in which a cat’s immune system inappropriately rejects the teeth), and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) – a triple threat to this sweet boy’s health. He spent several months in Ringworm isolation, enduring daily medication and twice weekly lime dips. During his lengthy stay in Ringworm, Hobbes became diabetic. What else could this wonderful boy endure?

With his ringworm cleared, he was taken to the University of Pennsylvania’s veterinary hospital and had laser treatments for his stomatitis. His diabetes is now under control with diet, so he no longer requires insulin. (We do, of course, regularly monitor his blood glucose levels.) Daily steroid treatment controls the inflammation in Hobbes’ mouth.

Hobbes is now thriving and living with fellow FIV+ diabetic Doc Watson in our Founder & Executive Director Jonathan’s office. Now that he’s healthy and has made Tabby’s Place his home, Hobbes is the definition of a lap cat. On your very first visit with Hobbes, he will immediately climb onto your lap to offer his chin and belly for rubs.

We realize that Hobbes is not the perfect cat for just anyone, but would be a treasured companion for the right adopter. Until that special someone comes along, please help us continue to care for Hobbes by becoming his sponsor.
