Felix

Felix

All cat people know at least one feline who delights in drinking from a faucet, but our Felix raises that to an art form. Sure, he drinks from a faucet, but he also loves drinking from the sink surface itself, right where a thin stream of water hits it. In fact, he’ll happily let the stream of water pour on his head, if only he can drink from his “sweet spot”. Once he’s done drinking, he sees no reason to move out of the sink. Why would he do that?

Anyone coming into the lounge to get a cup of coffee has to end up right next to the sink, as the coffee maker is kept there, and he might be able to cajole said human into giving him attention, something he clearly loves. We’re constantly having to tear off a sheet or two of paper towel to dry Felix’s head and face, and he doesn’t mind being towel-dried as long as he gets extra “pets” afterward.

Although he is a sweet, affectionate character, Felix has a number of medical challenges. When he first came to us, he had a very large, very rare type of bladder stone. Luckily, we were able to remove that. However, he does have early renal disease, for which he is on a supportive medication.

He also has chronic dental disease—stomatitis, to give it its proper name. Many of his teeth have had to be removed because of this stomatitis, and he’s on a low dose of steroids to maintain his mouth; he also requires an annual dental so we can be sure we’re keeping on top of the teeth he has left.

Felix also has IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), but a hypoallergenic prescription diet helps with that, as well as combating any stress he runs up against. Finally, our hydrophilic boy is a senior citizen; our best guess is that he was born in 2003.

You can understand why Felix’s chances of being adopted are not the greatest. Nonetheless, we’re hoping that the first-class medical care and affection he receives will keep our black-and-white guy going strong for many years to come. We’d love to see him adopted into a caring home, but if you cannot adopt Felix, please consider sponsoring him on a monthly basis.
