Chickadee

If I may borrow a phrase from W.C. Fields, “my little Chickadee” is a pretty calico, with white on all four paws, a white chest, white on her tummy, white whiskers, and a cute little white stripe down her nose. The rest of her coat is the usual mix of calico colors, and she’s got a distinctive orange tip to her tail. She’s a medium-sized girl; our best guess regarding her age is that she was born around October of 2007. Chickadee isn’t crazy about other cats, but she will tolerate them. She’s a quirky girl, too. If you call her, she’ll emerge from her usual place and come over to rub against your legs, sometimes even putting her front paws up on you. It’s apparent that she loves the attention, but she hisses and growls the whole time; she’s demonstrating how much she’s enjoying herself!

Chickadee has CH, or cerebellar hypoplasia. This is a neurological condition, and her walking looks a little strange as a result. There’s nothing to do for it; she’s not in pain, and it’s unlikely to get worse (or better) as she ages. We didn’t think she could jump, but I myself saw her jump onto a chair. She probably can’t jump especially high, and we’re not sure how she’d do with many stairs, but she gets around remarkably well.

Chickadee is a funny girl with a lot to offer the right person or family. We know she can be a good companion cat, and hope she’ll soon find a loving, “forever” home.
