Update for Steven

It’s time to eat, right?

Dear Team Steven,

As we move into balmy summer days here at Tabby’s Place, Steven always makes it a point to remind me it’s his favorite time of year. Spring and summer are kitten season, and our big ginger softie simply adores watching the little ones gambol and cavort. Their silly antics fill his heart with gladness. Yet, as a senior cat, he also sees this as a wonderful time when “oldies but goodies” find cozy comfort basking in the warm rays of the summer sun. According to Steven, there’s nothing quite as nice as a long afternoon nap on a windowsill or in one of the solariums… except food, of course!

Speaking of food, Steven recently pulled a fast one on us. We know our big boy is happy to share his space with Eartha. He has also eagerly embraced Zinc and Skip-It, when they bravely venture into the lab from their medical office space. And now, we know why: Steven discovered the pair had some different kibble available in their room! He kept this information to himself as long as possible, stealthily availing himself of these new taste treats. Now that the word is out, the staff has transitioned the office girls to Steven’s current diet. Alas, the grass was greener for a short time, but now it’s all the same.

When they share their food, there’s always room for one more!

Nevertheless, Steven knows he is still very, very special to all of us. Be sure to check out our Development Director Angela’s Ten Over Ten blog, where Steven takes his star turn as our oldest resident. He is very proud to be a part of our current Remember the Seniors campaign!  And, as always, he is supremely grateful for your generous sponsorship, which is vital to maintaining what he laughingly calls his “jelly belly.” Not that Steven is rotund or even out of shape—he just loves food (any food) and is eternally hungry!

Yes, food is perpetually on Steven’s mind. In fact, prolific writer that he is, the big guy recently participated in National Limerick Day. And his chosen topic? Well, see for yourself:

“There once was a haven called Tabby’s Place,

Where cats of all kinds lived with grace,

To their feline delight

They were loved (and FED) day and night,

Which accounts for the smile on my face.”

Tabby’s Place (and YOU) make me smile!

And what a smile it is! The Cheshire cat has nothing on Steven, that’s for sure. When you are living the good life, and you know it, you just can’t help but beam from ear to ear. Of course, as a ginger cat, happiness is a huge part of Steven’s personality and reason for being. Each day of his long and lovely life at Tabby’s Place, he embraces it as a blessing. Sharing that joy with all the other cats, staff, and volunteers is his very special way of reminding us all to count our lucky stars and be grateful for your kindness on our behalf. Frankly, we simply couldn’t live such amazing lives and do such important work without you!

Thank you for all you do.
