Update for Hips

Sound asleep on my desk bed

Hips’ Happenings #35

Happy November, dear sponsors.  Welcome to my latest update! I have a lot to share with you, so find a nice, comfy spot and enjoy the read.

On the blanket cart, I can oversee the volunteers who are cleaning!

Halloween just happened here at the sanctuary, and, boy, did we have a wonderful time!  Some of our kitties took the opportunity to dress in costume for extra treats.  And it worked…the staff and volunteers loved the costumes and sure did give extra treats, not only to the cats who dressed, but also to those of us who just watched the festivities.

In the video at the end of this update, you can see some of the kitties who opted to dress up. My friend, Colonel Peabody, was the star of the show in his spider costume!

Then, we were honored with an article in Catster’s Heroes of the Pet World section. How wonderful to be acknowledged globally. You can read this wonderful article here.

I was so bored during our recent ringworm outbreak.  There were no visitors permitted in the lobby, and I was unhappy that I could not sit in anyone’s lap.   So, I found ways to get attention from the staff and volunteers.

I helped out a lot when anyone came to give us meals, clean, or medicate us.  And I did a great escape into the lobby of Quinn’s Corner several times.  I know how to get attention, and those tricks sure worked. You can also see in video #2 below how we are all quite anxious when it is mealtime. The meals come from the laundry and dishes area, which is outside the Quinn’s Corner door!

Kevin, one of the volunteers, is often here, and he and I relax together after his chores are done.  But I didn’t see him for a while, because the Lobby had to be cleared of ringworm before anyone could come back in.

But … guess what? We are now ringworm-free…yay! Staff sure know how to get this pesky thing under control and ensure our safety.

Then I got a big surprise: my friend and correspondent, Mary Anne, came to visit me.  When she arrived, the Lobby was having a deep cleaning, and I was sound asleep on my desk bed.  (I have beds everywhere, but I always curl up in my desk bed after breakfast.)  It wasn’t long before I woke up and jumped into her lap.

She held me in her arms and gave me lots of pets and kisses for almost an hour while I finished my nap.  But, you know me by now… I have to monitor the volunteers to be sure they are giving us the softest blankets and some beds.  So I jumped off her lap and made a beeline for the blanket cart and jumped onto it to have a good lookout.  I was glad to see Mary Anne, but I do have responsibilities here and had to go to “work.”  (LOL!)

Now it’s time to tell you about our next big event:  Thanksgiving with the Cats.  On Saturday, November 22, from noon to 4 p.m., we are hosting this wonderful open house. The day will be filled with good things: treats for both cats and humans, self-guided tours of Tabby’s Place, T-shirts, cat toys, and other things to buy, and, of course, us cats for you to meet and play with (and feed us some turkey).

Please plan to join us if you are close by, or perhaps you want to take a nice drive through the beautiful countryside to see us.

And to all of you, dear sponsors, thank you again for all you do for us.  I give thanks each and every day for you, because I am safe here with all the other cats.

Enjoy your own Thanksgiving celebration with family and friends, and be safe and well..

Love and kitty purrs and kisses,
Hips
