Dearest Sponsors,
I’m so sorry for the inevitable scare of a “special update.” First and foremost, know that our sweet Moo Moo is still very much with us.
But, Moo Moo is facing worrisome medical news, and as her beloved sponsor family, we wanted you to be the first to know.
This morning, our Veterinary Technician, Drew, noticed that Moo Moo had an increased respiratory rate and effort. We don’t take any chances with our cherished cats, so she and Medical Director Denise immediately conducted an X-ray. To their dismay, this revealed a pleural effusion, an accumulation of excess fluid between Moo Moo’s lungs and chest wall.
Denise and Drew suspected congestive heart failure, the most common cause for such a sudden accumulation of fluid. This is as serious as it sounds, but we are all about hope and tenacious love at Tabby’s Place.
Moo Moo clearly takes hope seriously, too, as she remained bright and alert even though she was obviously not feeling like herself. I was one of many who lavished her with love, forehead kisses, and snacks as Denise conferred with our veterinarian, Dr. Collins. Moo Moo happily polished off five squeeze-treats, and seemed ready for a sixth!
But that would have to wait. A wonderful volunteer named Peggy rushed Moo Moo to the specialty hospital, where she is receiving world-class treatment as I type these words. Although Moo Moo’s blood work is normal, all other signs indicate congestive heart failure.
Tonight, the specialists are treating Moo Moo with oxygen, a diuretic, and a blood thinner. They have tapped the fluid from her chest, which should bring her considerable relief. She is in the best possible hands and should have a peaceful night, free from any pain.
Dear ones, it would be an understatement to tell you that our hearts are wrung as we wait to see how Moo Moo will respond to treatment. I am a stubborn optimist who would love nothing more than to tell you that we hope for a good, long time left with Moo Moo. But, the truth is that at this moment we simply don’t know.
What we do know is that your love and generosity will provide Moo Moo with the urgent care she needs.
Hour by hour, you will be right by her side, comforting her and giving her every possible chance. Thank you, more than words can say, for being her angels and true friends.
We will update you as soon as we know more. On such a difficult night, it is a comfort to have you with us.
Much love, your guest correspondent,
Angela
