Hello, FeLV fanciers.
I have to share some sad news: we’ve lost Sweetie.
He was with us for just under a year. This gentle boy arrived in March of 2024 as a stray who had tested positive for FeLV.
A woman with a heart of gold rescued him in Brooklyn, and we were grateful to be able to offer him a warm and loving haven in Quinn’s Corner.
He was a beautiful grey-tabby-and-white boy with an especially handsome face. While he never truly warmed up to people, Sweetie always appreciated the other felines around him. You might recall that he and Oram were especially close.
Just days ago, our staff became concerned when Sweetie suddenly began drooling and seeming uncomfortable. Blood work confirmed that he had entered end-stage leukemia, characterized by progressive bone marrow suppression. We did our best to keep him comfortable with antibiotics, steroids, and daily offerings of the most tempting foods.
But despite our best efforts, Sweetie made it clear that he was tired and done fighting, and we had to make the difficult decision to let him go last night.
I am grateful that he was able to spend the last year of his life in a place where he was safe, comfortable, and cherished.
Of course, so much of that is due to your big heart. Thank you for loving this dear boy with us.
With sorrow and gratitude, your correspondent,
Stephanie
