Update for Olive

Happy New Year, Olive Lovers!

Ready for the very first update of the year on our feisty girl?

Medical news first, and there hasn’t been much over the past month. The staff had noticed that Olive seemed a little unhappier than usual when she was being expressed. If you’ve been one of Olive’s fans for any length of time, you know that we have to adjust her medications periodically to keep her comfortable, and so it was this time; just a minor alteration in her medication appears to be helping her to date.

Socially, matters have become a little odd for our black-and-white girl. We all know that Olive can be temperamental, but she’s not the only changeable feline personality in our lobby these days. Staff and volunteers alike have observed Hips going after Olive repeatedly.

This is concerning to us, because, while she can move quickly, Olive cannot run away from Hips as could a cat with use of all her limbs. Hips is put into a “time out” whenever we see this happening (we can’t make him sit facing the wall, so we crate him for a short while), and we’re really hoping he’ll calm down a bit this month. Fortunately for all parties concerned, we have to crate Hips at night, as he’s on a special diet, so at least we don’t need to worry about Olive during the overnight period.

Olive took the holiday decorations at Tabby’s Place in her stride, but it was a different story with the catnip toys donated by a visitor. A couple of those toys ended up in our lobby, and Olive absolutely loved them; here you can see a short video of her playing enthusiastically with one.

As always, I appreciate the love you show our little lobby greeter. May 2024 be a year of good health and prosperity for you!
