Update for Luna

Dear Team Luna,

I am pleased to report that Luna had a happy and healthy month.

What a joy it is to report that, even as allergy season takes off, our lovely little lady has nary a cough or a sniffle. As you know, this is really exciting news for a cat that came to us with oh so many allergy problems.

In fact, Luna very politely requested the old photo of her hanging on the Medical Suite window be taken down! It in no way portrayed her current state of exuberant good health and, frankly, was not very flattering. Luna isn’t vain (do ya think?), but she does strive for accuracy in all things. We happily obliged. Our wonderful in-house volunteer photographers, Ruth or Rob, will snap something far more suitable at Luna’s next photo shoot. Whether Luna deigns to autograph her new pic remains to be seen.

As ever, Luna continues to enjoy helping with surgeries. She is an extremely keen observer of medical procedures and keeps a constant vigil at her patients’ sides. And, while she knows that for her own safety she will not be able to nurse the cats and kittens with FeLV in Quinn’s Corner, she is rooting for them just the same. Luna is so excited fundraising efforts to help our feline friends from this terribly underserved community are a top priority at Tabby’s Place right now. After all, Luna remembers so well when she was in desperate need. You, as a sponsor, reached out to help heal her, and it made all the difference! She knows that, while FeLV cats cannot now be cured, their lives will improve immeasurably when they have our staff and volunteers to care for them. Won’t it simply be wonderful when these beautiful babies can call Tabby’s Place their home?

A report on Luna, of course, would not be complete without a mention of her erstwhile companion, Angelo. Now that he is on behavior medication, Luna is pleased that Angelo has stopped urinating in random places while they are separated overnight. I mean, she thinks it’s wonderful that Angelo holds her in such high esteem – actually, we think he’s completely love-struck – but his not so little problem of controlling himself at night was a bit much. Pining over her is one thing, Luna muses, but peeing? Well, that’s quite another! It certainly wasn’t making the vet techs very happy when they arrived for work first thing in the morning. Cleaning up puddles, before you’ve even had a cup of tea or coffee, just isn’t a great way to begin each day. Frankly, Luna was a bit embarrassed about it for both of them.

Luna and all of us at Tabby’s Place would love your help in expanding our family—with volunteers! Last month I mentioned our need for additional volunteers as we prepare for our Quinn’s Corner expansion, which will open later this year. From cleaning to feeding to delivering tender affection, volunteers make a huge impact on our cats’ lives. If you have a heart for cats, we have a role perfectly fit for you at Tabby’s Place.

If you, or anyone in your own “family” of cat lovers, can come aboard, please visit our volunteer page, submit a volunteer application, or contact our Director of Volunteers, Karina Jewitt, at kj@tabbysplace.org. Volunteers must be 12 years or older, and a parent must accompany those under 16 during their volunteer shift. Please share this opportunity with your loved ones! And if you live a bit too far away to join us in person, know that you are still very much “right here” with us through your generosity…and we are so very grateful!

Providing you with pictures of Luna and all of her official veterinary suite activities is always such a pleasure. Perhaps you’ll let us know which one you think we should post on the lab’s door. Luna will have the final say, of course, but she’s always eager to get sponsor input. For those of you who haven’t paid a social call at Tabby’s Place in a while, she encourages you to stop in for a visit. As always, amazing things are happening here and we’re creating more healing and lifesaving magic by the minute. Thanks again for all of your support. Like Luna, we know we simply couldn’t do our best work without you!
