Update for Jeremiah

Hi, I’m Stephanie, and I’m a volunteer at Tabby’s Place. I’ve only been working here since mid-December, but I’ve already fallen pretty hard for our Jeremiah, one of the “gentle giants” of the cat world. Jeremiah has had an uneventful month as far as his health is concerned — and for an FIV+ cat, this is good. He continues to be, in the words of one of our veterinary technicians, “fat and happy”. But a few of us have discovered a previously-unknown side to his character. Jeremiah is a large cat in several senses of the word, and I never thought he was inclined to move more than is strictly necessary. Sure, he’ll swat at suite-mate Rambo’s tail when it swishes too near him as he’s dozing in his favorite resting place, but active play didn’t seem to be his thing.

However, late one night our Sanctuary Operations Manager, Pam, was sitting on the floor in his suite. All of a sudden, she was startled by Jeremiah running up and down the ramp, leaping on and off the cubbyholes, and energetically swatting around a toy mouse. When she told me about this, I was hard-pressed to connect the incident to the sedentary cat I thought I knew. Since that time, though, I’ve paid closer attention to him (easy to do, as he’s a very nice cat), and there are definitely times when his athletic streak comes to the fore. He’s taken to regarding the broom in the suite as his personal toy, for instance, and will sometimes play vigorously with it when I’m trying to sweep the floor. And for a big guy, he’s fast on his feet; he got past me into the hallway twice in one morning when I was cleaning his suite. I’m very pleased that our “escape artist” continues to be healthy. But most of all I’d like to see him placed in a loving home.
