Gherkin looks like a real tough guy, but the truth is that he’s just rather shy around people. He’s a handsome brown tabby with white on his muzzle, medium to large in size; our best guess is that he was born in October of 2013. He has no medical issues we’ve been able to determine.

Gherkin is very fond of other cats. With people, he’s shy at first and has even been known to hiss if you try to get close to him. Once you actually start petting him, however, he remembers that he enjoys it. For the present, people need to go slowly and speak softly around him, but those who do so have discovered that he can be, in the words of our Volunteer Coordinator, "a big mush".

We expect improvement in Gherkin’s attitude toward people with just a little more time. Come in to meet him, and you’ll understand that cats, like people, can’t be judged by appearances.
