Our beloved Lily has left this world.
There’s just no way to make this easy.
You’d think that, if there was such a thing as a “good death” or an “easy goodbye,” we’d have found it at Tabby’s Place by now. But there’s not - death is a thief every single time. Losing kittens is wrong. Losing elderly cats is wrong. Sudden loss wrecks us. A slow fade breaks us.

Last week, Tabby’s Place became one big broken heart when we heard from the original Mrs. AwesomeAdopter: Midnight, the snuggle-bug best friend to Pirate, had passed away. A primary lung sarcoma stole this sable sweetheart from his mama after six happy months together. Mrs. AwesomeAdopter fondly recalls how much you guys loved her boy and cheered him on, and was generous enough to let me share her love of Midnight with you:
My heart is aching. I suppose the loss of a 21-year-old cat shouldn’t be a shock, but I was in no way prepared to lose Tabby’s Place’s reigning “elder statescat,” the unsinkable Hillary.
Volunteer Larry, who has been devoted to his “sweetheart” Hillary for years now, was kind enough to pen this tribute to our irrepressible, unforgettable girl.
