I love when someone adopts a cat. I love when they make it a double.
And I swoon with glee when they supersize the order and adopt cats in triplicate - or triplikitten, as the case may be.
I’m told that SuperAdopters K, J & D originally had it in mind to adopt a cat from Tabby’s Place and a dog from somewhere other than Tabby’s Place. (We don’t have dogs at Tabby’s Place. That may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how many times the following phone conversation ensues: Thanks for calling Tabby’s Place, a Cat Sanctuary. “Yes, hi, I’m wondering what kinds of dogs you have?” Ummm…).
When three brilliant and amazing kittens caught wind of the family’s cat-dog plan, they hatched a scheme of their own. Why get just one creature of each species when you could get one cat per family member?
Guppy, Atlas and Achilles were out to make it a threepeat. And, as you can see from the following note, the KJD family is grateful that they succumbed to the kittens’ charms:
“We recently adopted 3 amazing kittens from Tabby’s Place in July. Their orginal names were Achilles, Atlas & Guppy. We renamed 2 of them, so they are now Achilles, Eli & Miso.
Sharon mentioned that you do a blog and would appreciate some stories about these three cuties.
Eli, formerly known as Atlas, is a Lynx-like tabby with a really long tail, great markings and a devilish talent for ambush. He is the lap cat I was hoping for. That boy loves being touched and actually becomes quite vocal if he thinks you should continue to pet him and you are moving away.
His brother, Achilles, is a white cat with unbelievable tabby markings. He loves being held like a baby and having his tummy rubbed.
Our little tabby princess, formerly known as Guppy (now Miso) is a classic tabby cutie. She has a quintessential cute kitten face.
The kittens are rarely apart from each and sleep interwined very often. They take care of each other, doing an excellent job of grooming their siblings. Miso is the first one to explore new territory, and, once she has certified it safe, the others follow.
Eli, despite being a lovebug, is pretty passionate about wrestling with the other two, and Achilles has uncovered every hiding spot in the house. It is not unusual to to see a white paw sticking out from under a bed or chair.
One morning they came up for their a.m. greeting, and much to my son’s horror, Miso began to walk along the top of the railing. He called out for her to be careful, and she took flight flying through the air like a flying squirrel, landing nimbly on the stairs quite a distance from where she started - no worse for wear. She looked up at us over her shoulder with a look that kind of said, “as if that was a big deal,” and started cleaning herself after her long flight.
The kittens explore and knock things over; we pick it up and then reinforce the behavior by telling them how cute they are - oh well. We have used a water spray bottle to deter furniture scratching, and so far so good - no telling what goes on when we are not here, though.
My son D. (age 10) has been keeping a little behavior observation log (my idea to encourage writing during the summer). These are some of his observations:
Triplikittens: Miso, Achilles & Eli
They love to chase each other and are really good wrestlers. A good time to groom is after someone has been to the litterbox. They groom like they mean business - searching each other’s head, licking their paws and really going to town. Their favorite toys are the laser light, crinkle balls and material strip on a stick. They love shiny things and are either in exploration or sleep mode. They are REALLY adorable.
We are so grateful to have invited these creatures into our lives and want to thank everyone at Tabby’s Place for having taken such good care of them and making the adoption possible. We were so impressed with the level of professionalism and compassion we encountered during the whole process.”
K, J and D, we are so impressed with you, and with the life o’ love that you’ve given three very lucky kittens. Here’s to many, many years of cuteness to the third power.

Oh how wonderful!!! I was wondering how these cuties were doing in their new home. Thanks for the update KJD family and Angela
Angela - funny you should mention dogs!! Yesterday at work, someone offered me dog food for the sanctuary I volunteer at. I kindly reminded her it’s just cats that I volunteer with, and suggested she take the food to her local animal shelter! Dogs at Tabby’s Place…could you imagine??
That was just the BEST update ever!!!! I LOVE that they were adopted together! What a wonderful family! Best wishes and a long, happy life to the KJD family and Miso, Achilles and Eli! I’m going to smile all day just by thinking about those three babies together forever!
I am overcome with happiness reading this - thank you so much for sharing! What a special, amazing and beautiful family (and I’m not just talking kitties
)
These little munchkins look and sound tickled pink with their new home. Best of luck to the kittens and their lovely new family!
I think if there were dogs at Tabby’s Place the cats would show them who’s boss. I can just see Tashi chasing German Shepherds all around the lobby.
and Edward, too!
I, for one, love the idea of dogs at Tabby’s Place. Maybe in the expansion…..
