When people ask me why I’m so in love with my job at Tabby’s Place, I tell them the truth: I get to love cats and love people all day.
In the course of all that love, sometimes someone puts things into words in such a way that the Big Truths about what we do become gloriously clear for just a moment. Recently, devoted Tabby’s Place volunteer Larry penned the following, which is too good, too true, not to share with you.
An oft-heard comment among visitors to Tabby’s Place is, “Your cats are so big!”
Is it the Ringoes, NJ water? Are cats like koi, growing to fill their space, so that cage-free living means enormous cats? Honestly, our cats don’t look unusually large to me…well, except for a certain contingent. Some call these guys the fat cats, but I’ll stick with plus-sized, or the latest buzz word, full-fashioned. And, truth be told, these sizable sweeties are growing in number.
In the Dessert Kids Yearbook, she’d be voted Most Likely To Hide Her Beautiful Face.
But, lo and behold, the sweetest and shiest Chester cat is making teensy, timid steps into the open. And aren’t we the fortunate ones? Dear friends, I present to you our stunning Cupcake.
For quite some time I have been promising to blog about Pepper, my current officemate. With this post, I’m fulfilling that promise.

You may have noticed we at Tabby’s Place like naming cats after foods. I really can’t say why this is. Maybe we’re hungry a lot around here. Or, maybe foods just make super cute names for super adorable cats. …when a serious, loving, seriously-loving family comes to visit one of our quirkier, “less-adoptable” cats once, then twice, then a third time.
…or when one of the most terrified cats I’ve ever known purrs - purrs!! - in a human’s presence.
…or when even our never-one-to-whitewash-the-truth veterinarian concedes that the improbable, the too-wonderful-to-hope-for, the miraculous, may be the true.
