It seems that nobody had ever tried to find a possible cause for Trey's inconsistent litter box use (many shelters just don't have the resources to do this). We examined him and found crystals in his urine, a common cause of inappropriate elimination. Our usual remedy is to put the cat on a prescription diet, and that's what we did here. Since Trey has been on this diet, which is easily obtainable from a vet, he's been in one of our smaller rooms, and there's been no inappropriate elimination noted there. It's quite likely that this simple solution was all that was required, though we do think Trey will have to stay on this diet for the rest of his life. In addition, we recommend that he go to a quiet home where litter boxes are easily accessible as stress and improper placement of litter boxes may cause Trey to have litter box issues again.

We're so pleased that we were able to save Trey, because he's got a wonderful disposition. He's a cute brown tabby with white paws and a white patch on his face, and he absolutely adores people. Go into his room and sit near him; chances are that he'll make himself comfortable in your lap. He's young, too, about three years old, we estimate (as of 12/2009). He even gets along beautifully with other felines!

We know that not everyone will want to take a chance on Trey. But, he's so loving that we believe he'll get adopted sooner rather than later. If you can use more love in your life (and who can't?), do come in to meet this special boy.
