Posey is a bit of a puzzle to us. We know that this pretty, medium-sized brown tabby (with a white chin) lived in a private home for at least a good portion of her life. Since coming here, however, she's been Ms. Unpredictable. She'll rub against you as though she wants attention, but put your hand down to pet her, and she'll swipe at you. We think she's just having trouble settling down here; a shelter environment can be much more unsettling to some cats than others. In addition, since Posey is not a youngster (she was born sometime in 2001, according to our best guess), she may be having a bit more difficulty adjusting. For the present, we're recommending she go to a home without small children. Posey seems tolerant of the other felines in her suite, though she keeps mostly to herself.

We have found crystals in Posey's urine. That sounds terrible, I know, but she's asymptomatic, so there's no need for treatment or special food. It is possible that she'll become symptomatic at some point, thus requiring one or both, but it's likely that she's had this condition her whole life and has been fine with it.

Quite a number of Tabby's Place cats have started out as proverbial "wild things", but once they settle down, they become fine companion animals. We expect the same will be true for Posey, and we'll keep you updated on her progress.

Update, 2/27/12: We've moved Posey into a smaller room with some of our more laid-back, elderly ladies. Posey seems to be enjoying her new roommates and living space very much. She's become very affectionate, and even a little playful, especially if there's catnip around. She does occasionally swat when she's had enough attention, and we've discovered that she doesn't always like to use her litter box (although, for the most part we've been able to work around this issue). Even so, Posey has proven to be a sweet girl and a delight to have at Tabby's Place.
